bending down, one last time
to glance upon her face.
strains of music filled the chapel,
scents of flowers graced
the air.  a murmur of soft whispers,
grew more hushed and silent still,
as son and spouse laid her to rest
eternity until.

her son, a man now, over fifty
closed the casket, - tight-
the way she'd wanted it to be
and hoped he'd done alright
by her.  made certain of her wishes
that each latch be fastened, - then
watched as she was tucked away
never to be seen again.

the tears flowed freely down his cheeks.
so tender was his heart
that day, that slightest breeze would simply
rend it into parts.
but gathered every strength around him,
more concerned for spouse
of well and over fifty years, who now returned
to empty house.

hard to say if either noticed
lingering mid-air,
as if a spirit, her soft presence
sudden everywhere!
premonitions had forewarned
in dreams, now she was with them still.
and something of her would remain,
eternity until.
