i've no more gods to coddle me...
what ever shall i do?
no well endowed protectors to descend and fight my cause.
no absent minded maker to depend on for my breath,
or yet to justify my life, nor bind me after death.
no jealous expectations to be met, no code of laws.
just suddenly i woke one day, no gods to answer to.
i've no more mysteries to solve...
what's left for me to see?
i've seen the man behind the cloth, pretending to be Oz.
and ceased devotions rendered to some distant deity.
obsequious confessions and obeisance by degree,
all disappeared, like dreams with dawn, like symptoms reft
of cause
when fairy tales dissolved and proved mine own divinty.
i've no more gods to coddle me...
no arms to fall into.
no breasts to suckle when distressed, no saviour to implore.
no mission to accomplish here, nor heaven there to win.
no paradise to forfeit for the wantonness of sin.
no compromise or sacrifice to make to please some 'lord'.
because i sacrificed my gods, and bartered servitude.
and so i've no more gods, you see.
what ever shall i do?
